He was just 11 years old when he began working in his uncle’s menswear store in the London Borough of Enfield. Twenty-one years later, at the age of 32, he founded the luxury clothing retailer, Ted Baker, with the opening of his own men’s shirt shop in Glasgow, Scotland, in March 1987.

The designer continued to expand his business with stores in Manchester and Nottingham. In 1990, Kelvin opened a Ted Baker store in Convent Garden along with an additional store in Nottingham and stores in Leeds and London’s Soho area. Kelvin not only has expanded Ted Baker stores throughout the U.K. but also has opened stores across Europe, North America, Australasia, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. While the company originally offered only men's clothing, it added Ted Baker Woman in 1995. It also has lines of children’s clothing, accessories, and jewelry including men's and women’s watches.
